Job title: VOYAGERS Manager (PI)
Salary: $55,000-$65,000 per year, commensurate with experience and qualifications
Hours: Flexible - regular business hours and weekends/nights as needed
Work Location: Hybrid, minimum 12 hours in office per week (32 hour work week)
Position Overview: The VOYAGERS program at UTOPIA PDX is dedicated to uplifting Pacific Islander and
LGBTQ2SIA+ students through culturally responsive educational support and mentorship. Designed to foster
academic success, cultural pride, and self-identity, VOYAGERS creates a safe, affirming environment for students to
explore their heritage, build resilience, and thrive in school. As the VOYAGERS PI Manager, you will lead
programming for elementary-level Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander (NHPI) students, focusing on delivering
culturally relevant curricula, engaging with families, and collaborating with school staff to meet the unique needs of
NHPI youth.
Key Responsibilities:
● Curriculum Development and Implementation: Design culturally responsive, age-appropriate curricula that
incorporate Pacific Islander values, histories, and traditions. Coordinate with the Director of Student
Transformation to ensure programs align with UTOPIA PDX’s mission and the goals of the NHPI Student
Success grant.
● Family and Community Engagement: Facilitate community forums, cultural events, and gatherings to
strengthen connections among NHPI students, families, and the PI community. Coordinate workshops and
resource fairs to connect families with educational and community resources, fostering cultural pride and
engagement in student success.
● School and Staff Collaboration: Act as the primary liaison with elementary school staff and administrators,
advocating for NHPI students and ensuring school environments are inclusive and supportive. Coordinate with
teachers to provide additional academic support or adjustments for participating students as needed.
● Student Mentorship and Support: Build one-on-one relationships with students, providing mentorship that
emphasizes self-identity, resilience, and cultural pride. Address individual student challenges, fostering an
environment where students feel safe, understood, and supported.
● Program Evaluation and Reporting: Track and assess program outcomes, using qualitative and quantitative
data to measure program effectiveness, student progress, and family engagement. Prepare detailed reports for
grant compliance and to inform future program improvements.
● Professional Development and Advocacy: Lead training and development sessions for school staff on
Pacific Islander cultural competency and student needs, enhancing overall awareness and understanding of
NHPI values and perspectives within the educational setting.
Qualifications:
● Bachelor’s degree in Education, Social Work, Cultural Studies, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
● 3+ years of experience in culturally specific education programming or community outreach, particularly with
Pacific Islander communities.
● Demonstrated experience in curriculum design, student mentorship, and family engagement.
● Strong knowledge of Pacific Islander cultural values, history, and unique challenges within the educational
system.
● Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills, with a proven ability to advocate for NHPI
students and families in elementary school settings.
