dear QT/BIPOC,
We want to express that the United Territories of Pacific Islanders Alliance - Portland stands in solidarity with you indefinitely.
Every day, our LGBTQ2SIA+ community faces prejudice, discrimination, and harm due to our identities and sexual orientation. In 2023 alone, we are witnessing an extreme uptick in anti-trans legislative measures in 49 of the 50 United States. Over 350 bills are currently active, and daily, the injustices rise. We understand that these bills are only a sliver of the hardships and discrimination the queer & trans community encounter daily.
We believe that the Queer and Trans community has basic rights that are constantly in jeopardy. Our community deserves reproductive justice, resources for our trans kids, housing, healthcare, safe employment, protections, and safety.
As QTPIs*, we hear you, we see you, and we stand with you. Knowing the impact of our roles as community leaders and members, we understand that we must stay diligent in growing. Our goal is to stay intentional in the learning and understanding of how our lived experiences affect the way we advocate for the community. We are all responsible and must take part in the unlearning of anti-LGBTQ2SIA+ mindsets, actions, and sentiments.
We all must take a stand together as we know that we are stronger together.
To our QTPIs and Allies, we must listen to the voices of our community members. Through our shared experiences, we can dig deeper into the understanding of what our Queer & Trans communities need. Moments of organizing for our communities will come by, and our staff intends to advocate for and with our LGBTQ2SIA+ family.
Looking into the future, we will center our efforts on uplifting and liberating our Queer & Trans communities. We honor the ancestors of QTPIs that came before us. We honor LGBTQ2SIA+ leaders who have paved the way for our advocacy work.
We stand with you with pride & gratitude
