Job title: Education Navigator (LGBTQ2SIA+)

Hours: 18-20 hours/week - regular business hours and weekends/nights as needed

Position Overview:

The VOYAGERS program at UTOPIA PDX empowers Pacific Islander and LGBTQ2SIA+ students through culturally

sensitive support, academic mentorship, and safe spaces for identity exploration. As the LGBTQ2SIA+ Education

Navigator, you will work closely with middle and high school LGBTQ2SIA+ students, offering guidance, mentorship,

and family engagement. This role ensures that queer and trans students feel academically supported, personally

affirmed, and connected to a community that values their identities.

Key Responsibilities:

● Student Advocacy and Mentorship: Develop one-on-one support strategies for LGBTQ2SIA+ students,

addressing academic needs in areas like reading, math, and test preparation. Serve as a mentor, promoting

self-confidence and self-advocacy while helping students navigate identity-related challenges in school.

● Family Engagement and Education: Communicate regularly with families, organizing informational sessions

to foster understanding of LGBTQ2SIA+ issues. Provide resources to help families support their child’s identity

and participate actively in their academic journey.

● Resource Connection and Referrals: Connect students and families to relevant school and community

resources, including mental health services, tutoring programs, and safe spaces. Facilitate referrals to support

students’ academic, emotional, and social well-being.

● Safe Space and Community Building: Advocate for LGBTQ2SIA+ students within the school system, helping

to establish and support safe spaces where students can freely express their identities. Encourage the

formation of peer networks and connections to build community within the school.

● Progress Monitoring and Reporting: Track student progress in academics, social-emotional development,

and engagement. Document outcomes to ensure compliance with the LGBTQ2SIA+ Student Success grant

and to continuously improve support strategies.

● Collaboration with School Staff and Administrators: Build collaborative relationships with school staff to

ensure a supportive and inclusive environment. Offer insight and resources to help educators understand and

address the unique needs of LGBTQ2SIA+ students.

Qualifications:

● Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Education, Counseling, or related field (or equivalent experience).

● 2+ years of experience working with LGBTQ2SIA+ youth, particularly within middle and high school settings.

● Strong knowledge of LGBTQ2SIA+ issues, identity development, and educational support frameworks.

● Ability to work effectively with families, students, and school staff.

● Empathy, cultural sensitivity, and commitment to creating inclusive environments.

● Preferred: Experience working with QTBIPOC communities
