IN HONOR OF MARTIN LUTHER KING JR. DAY
+ RACIAL DAY OF HEALING…
We, at UTOPIA PDX, understand and wholeheartedly believe that without Black Liberation, we cannot have Indigenous Sovereignty, and without Indigenous Sovereignty, we cannot have Black Liberation. We believe that to achieve liberation for all, we must uplift, empower, and stand in solidarity with those most oppressed.
On Martin Luther King Jr. Day (January 15th) and Racial Day of Healing (January 16th), we honor the leaders in the Civil Rights Movement in pursuit of a more equitable future. We honor our ancestors and those who came before us, who paved the way for us to express our joy for our culture, as well as the opportunity for us to voice the harm done at the hands of white supremacy and our oppressors that we now hold the burden to heal from.
We encourage our community to take these days off to participate in sacred healing. We believe it is crucial to maintain your mental and emotional well-being by taking care of yourself in the ways that best support you. In times of turmoil, it is important to engage in activities that promote racial healing such as community grief circles or reading books with racial healing techniques.
In these moments of healing, we encourage our people to engage with fellow community members. We encourage you to take moments to grieve and gather with community as you begin healing from the ways you have been harmed.
