TRANS DAY OF VISIBILITY

IN HONOR OF TRANS DAY OF VISIBILITY🏳️‍⚧️…

Today we celebrate our Transgender community. We acknowledge our Transgender and Trans-BIPOC community faces adversity and prejudices that cause long-lasting harm and trauma. Our Trans and Trans-BIPOC folks are experiencing a legislative and social attack resulting in the jeopardization of their safety, humanity, and identities.

We all have different lived experiences as trans folks. The transgender experience can look like taking extra precautions when traveling to know you’re safe. Or, fighting for your rights to be protected and respected in legislature or social settings.

As Trans folks, as Allies, we must listen to the voices of our community members. We are all responsible and must take part in the unlearning of anti-trans mindsets, actions, and sentiments. We must unpack the effects of colonization by indigenizing our minds. As QTPIs*, we must stay diligent in growing and advocating for our communities.

Our transgender community deserves reproductive justice, gender-affirming care, housing,  healthcare, safe employment, protection, and equity. The transgender community deserves to be listened to, uplifted, and liberated.

Looking into the future, we will endlessly center our efforts on uplifting and liberating our Queer & Trans and QTPI communities.

In celebration and solitude,

UTOPIA PDX Staff.
